Parenting complex children requires understanding, calm and humour. How do we get there? Sometimes it feels like being pushed to the edge of the cliff. Ever felt like you fell over and off? The climb up is long and so often filled with regret.
What can we do to to avoid the "cliff falls"? What are some simple strategies that create powerful change?
Breathe Deeply. Take time to stop and breathe. Breathe deeply so your diaphragm expands. Some call if "belly breathing." Research shows that deep breaths lowers cortisol, the stress hormone that puts us into fight/flight/freeze/surrender. Less cortisol, less stress response. More thinking, more understanding, more humour. Deep breaths for one and all!
